Wine

When our family stepped into the world of grape growing and winemaking, we focused on one thing above all else – staying 'true to the land.'  Six years later, we are proud to offer our hand crafted, family made red, white and fruit wines, which we feel embody the essence of what the Leelanau Peninsula can provide.

While our offerings may change from year to year based on the growing season and the avaiability of superlative fruit, our philosophy will not.  Our favorite wines from Alsace, Mosel, Burgundy, Bordeaux and Napa will serve as a guide, however Verterra reflects as clearly as possible our native Leelanau County roots.

2011 Wines

The exceptional 2011 harvest, in both quality and quantity of fruit, has given us the ability to make a wide variety of what we are sure will be award winning wines.  Our wine list is expanding from the current 9 wines from our first vintage in 2010 to 16 different wines from our 2011 harvest.

We hope that you enjoy consuming them as much as we did producing them.  Cheers!

2012 Wines

What a year.  80 degrees in March,  freezing in April and then a long, hot summer.  The weather was all over the place but the net result was an incredible harvest for grape growers.  This is when wine making gets really fun because you have so many different options with clean, ripe fruit.  Some highlights include:

  • Our Pinot Blanc, dry, beautiful nose and these 3, 4 and 5 year old plant produce a really eclectic nose unlike any other wine grape
  • Rose of Pinot Noir, dry, brilliant pink and even more crushed strawberries than our 2011
  • Unoaked Chardonnay, dry and anything but austere.  Green apple and lime finish.
