This being our first vintage, as we watched this Pinot Noir fruit go through veraison (the transition from green grapes to red), it really hit home: here we are growing one of the greatest red wine grapes in the world! The hot summer of 2010 ripened the fruit at a fast pace, September put on the brakes as "degree-days" dropped to a crawl, and a glorious October finished a near-perfect ripening season

Vinification
The Pinot Noir was hand harvested from our vineyard on Matheson Road just south of Northport. It was destemmed and then fermented in open top macro bins. Punch downs occured several times a day to keep the cap wet and continue the color extraction. Towards the end of fermentation the must was gently pressed and then pumped in to 100% new French Oak barrels. It aged for 7 months before being extracted, filtered and bottled.
